This month Autotech Council meets to examine AI's increasing relevancy to the automotive industry, in self-driving cars, ADAS, design, manufacturing, and more. Join us to discuss, and meet AI innovators with automotive solutions.
The whole of Silicon Valley is crazy for AI right now. The big GAFA companies, startups, and VCs alike are excited by the surge in practical AI applications, and the horizontal opportunities they offer across all industries. Unsurprisingly, then, AI is increasingly relevant to the automotive industry, in self-driving, ADAS, design, manufacturing, and more. As one of the most valuable industries in the world, automotive has huge activities where a few percentage points of savings can mean millions of dollars.
So, naturally, we’re also keen on talking about AI at the Autotech Council, and in bringing in a group of great start-ups in the sector. We expect to hear about new technologies working in the following segments:
- ADAS and Safety: Above all, AI should be used to improve the safety of mobility, both for users in the car, but also those Vulnerable Road Users outside. AI can support ADAS systems that can detect threats to VRUs, and react instantly.
- Self-Driving Vehicles: Development of AV technology has companies focused on different levels of self-driving. AI powers features like Computer Vision, object detection, navigation, routing, and decision-making for AVs.
- Manufacturing Efficiency and Safety: AI optimizes production lines, streamlines assembly processes with robots, uses wearables to boost worker safety and efficiency, and enables predictive maintenance to reduce downtime. Digital Twins enable experimentation in software and AI.
- Enhanced Driver Experience: AI aids in personalization, infotainment improvements, voice assistants for hands-free interaction, driver monitoring to detect fatigue or distraction, and driver-assist features for safety.
- Supply Chain Optimization: AI-powered predictive analytics improve efficiency through demand forecasting, inventory management, and supply chain responsiveness.
- Quality Control: Computer vision and AI-powered systems are used to inspect vehicles, detect defects early, and ensure higher quality standards.
- Predictive Sales & Marketing: Using data to better understand customer behavior, tailoring marketing efforts for personalization, and forecasting sales trends.
- Insurance Transformation: AI can assess risk more accurately, detect potential fraud, and streamline claims processing.
- Smart City Integration: Connected vehicle technology can interact with smart city infrastructure to improve overall traffic flow and safety.
- “Software-ization”: It’s difficult for legacy carmakers to make the switch in skills, culture, and staff from mechanical engineering to software engineering and Software-Defined Vehicles. But AI is very useful in coding, and can be a force multiplier for smaller, newer software teams. Of course, that’s true only if you have a team skilled in using AI.
- Generative AI for Design Innovations: Creating completely novel designs, exploring aesthetic options, and optimizing for unique requirements.
So, we can see from the list that the uses of AI in the automotive industry are VERY broad, and include many different parts of the AI sector. Join us for our meeting, where we discuss some of these ideas, and meet startups that have promising new solutions in these topic areas.
